Analytical Image Reconstruction Methods for Medical Tomography - Recent Advances and A New Uniqueness Result -

چکیده
Image reconstruction is a key step in tomographic medical imaging. Roughly speaking, the image reconstruction methods can be classified into analytical methods and iterative (or algebraic) methods. In this presentation, we review advances on the analytical image reconstruction methods since 1990. In particular, we pick up the following two important reconstruction problems. The first topic is the 2-D region of interest (ROI) reconstruction problem in which our aim is to reconstruct an object f(x, y) on a ROI from its projection data p(r, θ) truncated with respect to the radial variable r. The second topic is the cone-beam reconstruction problem in which our aim is to reconstruct a 3-D object f(x, y, z) from a set of cone-beam projections gλ(u, v) measured by moving an x-ray source along some curve ~a(λ); λ ∈ Λ ((u, v) denotes the planar detector coordinates).

Methods to evaluate the performance of kilovoltage cone-beam computed tomography in the three-dimensional reconstruction space
Background: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanners for image-guided radiotherapy are in clinical use today, but there has been no consensus on uniform acceptance to verify the CBCT image quality yet. The present work proposed new methods to fully evaluate the performance of CBCT in its three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction space. Materials and Methods: Compared to the traditional methods...

Introduction: Recent studies of Computed Tomography (CT) conducted on patient dose reduction have recommended using an iterative reconstruction algorithm and mA (mili-Ampere) dose modulation. The current study aimed to evaluate Iterative Dose Reduction Algorithm (IDREAM) as an iterative reconstruction algorithm. Material and Methods: Two CT p...

The Magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT) is a new medical imaging method combining electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and current injection MRI technique. In this paper, we show the uniqueness in MREIT problem with an orthotropic conductivity under the hypothesis that the ratios of conductivities are known. Based on an effective numerical differentiation method and an a...
متن کاملDose Reduction Methods in Chest Computed Tomography
Introduction: Computed tomography is one of the most powerful tools for investigating thorax disease, because it shows progression of lung disease much clearer than chest radiography. Technical advances in CT scanners have led to some abilities for CT scanners such as coverage of larger volume, lower noise and ability for acquiring image in one respiratory phase. However, this will be accompani...
متن کاملFast System Matrix Calculation in CT Iterative Reconstruction
Introduction: Iterative reconstruction techniques provide better image quality and have the potential for reconstructions with lower imaging dose than classical methods in computed tomography (CT). However, the computational speed is major concern for these iterative techniques. The system matrix calculation during the forward- and back projection is one of the most time- cons...
